The BItterings arrive on Mars, while the children (Dan, Laura, David) are delighted, Harry is not happy and wants to go back because he feels out of place. His wife Cora tries to reassure him that everything is fine.
Laura tells Harry and Cora that the rockets have been blown up and they are stuck on Mars. Harry is in shock and tells the other children.
Harry soon sees that things are out of the ordinary and is terrified when he sees that the roses are green and the grass is purple. He goes to complain to his friends and sees that they have yellow eyes.
Harry's children soon started speaking using martian words and had Harry refer to them as Ttil. Linnl, and Werr. Harry and his family decided to leave their houses and go away for the summer with everyone else. They didn't think that the little cottages were suitable for them anymore
Harry and his wife look down at the old village. They talk about how they were glad the humans who had lived there were gone. Harry and his wife have turned into full martians at this point.
The Leiutenant and his men come up to Mars after a few years saying that they finally have won the war. All they seem to find is an abandoned village and some friendly Martians who claim to know nothing about the missing people. The Lieutenant stares at the scenery blankly and doesn't seem to hear his men talking to him
