Storyboard Text

  • No one woke him up because everyone was to busy being distracted by all of the chaos happening around them. One Woman said, “ Hey Jacob, wake up!” Jacob did not move?! The woman shook Jacob again,                                                                                         “Jacob you need to wake up now!!” He still didn't move!                                                                                           Therefore everyone just kept going on with their morning and no one tried to wake up Jacob again. When we got to our post, the driver started counting us to make sure that we were all there. He noticed that Jacob wasn't there and asked everyone where he was. One lady said that he was still back in the cabin sleeping, so the driver went to the cabin. When the driver got to the cabin he saw that Jacob was sleeping. He yelled his name many times. After 4 times of yelling, he busted through the cabin door yanked Jacob out of the bed and started whipping him.
  • What a sight to see! I stood paralyzed, not able to move for the whole time. It was my first time experiencing someone getting whipped. I remember feeling sick that day because of how confused I was. I never thought a human being could do that to another human being! After the driver finished whipping him, some elders came up to Jacob and started to help him out. He was was so badly bruised that one of the elders had to say a prayer to God, asking him to heal Jacobs' wounds. During all of this, the driver was yelling at all of us to get back to our post. We all quickly ran back to our post and didn't say a word.
  • My grandmother always told me, “follow the rules boy, or the driver will give you consequences." On that day, I finally understood what she meant. When I was young, especially after I saw Jacob getting beat, I never wanted to brutally get beat like that. I also never understood, why not waking up on time, got you a beating. Till this day I still don't think I understand it. Really, I don't think I ever will.
