In the climax and the ending of the shrort story "Three Skeleton Key" writen by George G. Toudouze, Itchoua, Le Gleo, and the narrator have escaped the rats in the lighthouse and they have locked them in a lower room. The rescuers return from their first attempt of saving them with a large barge full of fresh cut meat. The rats smell the meat, leave the lighthouse, and leap onto the barge. The unsuspecting rats are lit on fire when the rescuers douse the meat with gasoline and throw matches onto the barge. If any of the rats survive the fire, they have to jump off of the barge and into the sea below, full of sharks. The rats's numbers dwindle down into nothingness and the rescuers come into the building saving Le Gleo, the narrator, and Itchoua. Itchoua dies from infection a week later and Le Gleo's mind has cracked. Le Gleo has been moved to a asylum in France where he shall live out the rest of his days. For the narrator, he returns to work at the lighthouse.

Itchoua is unconscious from his injuries. The narrator is happy that the rats are leaving the tower and that they are close to well being. Le Gleo's mind has cracked and he is starting to go a bit crazy.
The rescurers have doused the barge with gasoline and they lit the barge on fire. The rats that survive the fire are jumping off of the barge are getting eaten by the sharks.
Back to the old grind!
Itchoua, Le Gleo, and the narrator are saved. Itchoua has bled some more. Le Gleo has gotten even crazier than before. The narrator is happy that he will eb free of the sea rats.
Three other men have been deployed at the lighthouse while the narrator, Itchoua, and Le Gleo rest and recover.
Le Gleo's mind has cracked and he is now in an asylum in France. Itchoua has died from infection a week after the altercation with the rats. The narrator has returned to the lighthouse to work.
