Signposts - Again and Again and Memory Moment

Storyboard Text

  • Memory Moment
  • "As Shay and Jessica laugh, I remember how we dressed up as our favorite book characters for Halloween last week." (7)
  • Memory Moment
  • "And looking around the room, I remember thinking that my reading differences were like dragging a concrete block.." (245)
  • Memory Moment
  • "I think of that word Mr. Daniels used when he talked about the famous people with dyslexia. Grit." (245)
  • Why might this memory be important? This memory is important because it establishes Shay and Jessica as the antagonists because they are laughing at Ally. The reader also knows that this part of the story takes place in November now.
  • Again and Again
  • "Embarrassed, I slide my drawings underneath my blank writing assignment." (2)
  • Why might this memory be important? I think this memory is important because it shows the drastic change in Ally after she has tried to read with Mr. Daniels. Since Ally is now trying her best to read, she realizes that everybody has their own differences and that she is not the only on with difficulties.
  • Again and Again
  • Why might this memory be important? I think this memory is important because Ally has been full of grit lately with her efforts to improve her reading skills. She has been trying her best every time so she can to learn how to read.
  • Again and Again
  • Travis bought a rare penny... How much money does he have now?
  • Why do you think the author brings up this idea again and again? I think the author brings this up again and again because she wants the reader to know that Ally is different than the rest of the students. She loves to draw while others do their assignments.
  • "How can you cure dumb?" (13) Why do you think the author brings up this idea again and again? I think the author brings up this up again and again because she has to reinstate that Ally thinks of herself as dumb. This is one of the things she has to fix later in the novel.
  • Why do you think the author brings up this idea again and again?  I think the author brings this up again and again because the reader needs to know that Ally has a very difficult time reading, even in subjects that don't require a lot of it. We can begin to realize how bad Ally's time reading is after this.
  • "There are also long stories with characters, and although the story is supposed to end with some number, all the words block my path to getting there." (39)
