  • Gouvernor Morris was born January 31 1752. He grew up in a wealthy family. Gouvernor Morris went to King's College now know as Columbia University. He studied law. He became a lawyer when he was 19.

  • In 1775, he was elected to New York's provincial congress and in 1776 served on committees that drafted the state's new constitution and that instructed New York's delegates to the Second Continental Congress to support the Deceleration of Independence.

  • Gouvernor Morris was a leading figure in the constitutional convention. His elder half brother signed the constitution. He signed the articles of confederation.
