Storyboard Text

  • The scene begins at a Christmas party at King Arthurś court. Everyone is having a good time when suddenly a gigantic Green Knight armed with only an ax challenges the guests. He agrees to accept a blow with the ax if he is able to return the blow a year and a day later. Sir Gawain, the nobles of knight, accepts the challenge and strikes him with the ax. The Green Knight simply picks up his head, puts it back on, and leaves.
  • A year and one day passes, Sir Gawain sets out to find the Green Knight in order to fulfill the challenge. After weeks of lonely questing, he comes upon a splendid castle. He is welcomed by the Lord and Lady and reassured that the giant Green Knight is nearby in a chapel.
  • Sir Gawain stays there for three days and each morning when the Lord goes away to hunt, the young and beautiful Lady visits him. She is stunning and Sir Gawain struggles with deciding whether or not to follow his duties as a knight. She gifts him a green girdle in order to protect him from harm, which he accepts.
  • Sir Gawain sets out to keep his promise with a servant of his host as the guide. Along the way, the servant tells him of his foolishness and leaves Sir Gawain behind with just his horse. Sir Gawain finally reaches the chapel where the Green Knight is said to be, it is horribly ugly and is a mortifying sight. The Green Knight finally shows himself with his ax.
  • The Green Knight warns Sir Gawain and is taunting him as he is about to hit him the the ax. Sir Gawain flinches during the first attempt to strike him and the Green Knight taunts him for being a coward. During the second attempt he draws blood from a small cut. He then informs Sir Gawain that he knows that he has kissed his wife and that he accepted that girdle from the Lady. Sir Gawain is outraged that he has been played and is upset.
