  • " Even so zealous a hunter as General Zaroff could not trace him there , he told himself:only the devil himself could follow that complicated trail through the jungle after dark"
  • Hiding

  • "You've done well,Rainsford, the voice of the gernal called. Your Burmese tiger pit has claimed one of my best dogs. Again you score. I think Mr. Rainsford, Ill see what you can do against my whole pack."
  • Rainsford was a strong man who liked hunting. On the trail through the the woods, his confidence wasn't the best but afer he rested, it brought him good security and comfort. It was night time, a he didn't think general Zaroff would trace him but he did.
  • Tree (trap)
  • "If you are within sound of my voice, as I suppose you are, let me congratulate you. Not many men know how to make a Malay mancatcher. Luckily for me I, too, have hunted in Malaca."
  • In the night, Rainsford hears the general call for his name to congratualte him. The narrator builds up tension by telling us that rainsford kept going, and gets stuck in the "Death Swamp" . Rainsofrd was trying not to loose his nerve. General congratulated him after the Malay mancatcher.
  • Resolution of Story
  • Rainsford built the trap so he would have time to flee from the general and his dogs. During the day, Rainsford knew he heard a sound that gave him fear. He only had two options. The narrator tells us that he is in a situation that isn't good but since Rainsford is a good hunter, he knows what to do during these situations.

  • Rainsford had to make this trap very fast because the general was right behind him. He was trying to kill ivan but it didn't work. This shows us that Rainsford is not giving up and he keeps trying.
  • " He caughthold of a springy young sapling and to it he fastened his hunting knife,with the blade pointing down the trail, with a bit of wild grapevine he tied back the sapling."
  • " There was a little moonlight, so, before turning on his light, he went to the window and looked down at the courtyard. He could see the great hounds, and he called, "better luck another time," to them. Then he switched on the light."
  • Rainsford won. Since he won, he got to sleep in a bed in a very long time. He hasn't slept in so long. He's never slept in a better bed. This shows us that he was always confident in himself and never gave up because now he finally got to sleep in a bed again.
