Pierre was off to go sign as a voyageur to get a job for his father because, he chopped his thumb to a stub so he couldn't paddle the canoe anymore.
The voyageurs started paddling but even though Pierre got tired very early on he kept on going and began his journey. Pierre's brigade kept on calling him grandpa as a joke because he was shorter and younger than everyone else in the brigade. Pierre has been paddling for hours now and his fingers were numb and his arms felt like they were going to fall off!
The voyageurs were approaching their first rapids so they portaged (which means walk around or past them). Pierre got his pack and started walking but he had a very hard time keeping his balance. When Pierre was walking up a hill he fell and his pack opened up and musket bullets fell out of it and they weigh double of a normal pack!
The voyageurs started the long and hard journey across Lake Superior. At first it was sunny, calm, and beautiful but later on it became very cold and windy so the canoes started filling up with water so Pierre (because he is the youngest crewmen) started bailing water out of his canoe.
We finally made it to Grand Portage! I'm glad we made it and i'm so excited but also kind of nervous, but I'm ready for a break from paddling!
This year Pierre is being a pork-eater (going home). Pierre is planning on signing as a voyageur next year too and he might be a hivernant!
