Storyboard Text

  • My name is Mr. Dawes, but you can call me Henry. I propose an act that will force the Native Americans to give up their land and assimilate into English culture. It will be called the Dawes Act!
  • Mom! I don't want to leave our home! We just got settled here and we will have to leave everything behind!
  • I know a-yo-li (child). The white men are very selfish, but we must keep our heads held high and preserve our culture, even when we must leave our home.
  • This is outrageous! My people are already struggling to support themselves by farming, but how are we supposed to do the same thing at a new place? Our only options are to leave our homes or fight a hopeless battle against the U.S. Army.
  • This soil is terrible and I don't have the money to buy the tools to fix it! I have only one sixteenth plot of land to feed myself! I feel bad for the larger families with similar problems to mine...
  • It is only a matter of time son... Only a matter or time...
  • Why did our friends have to leave a-da-do-da? (Father)
