Storyboard Text

  • Odysseus and his men are sailing on their boat, and eventually find themselves at the land of the Lotus Eaters.
  • Shaun Hirsch Homer - The Lotus Eaters
  • Three of Odysseus' men are greeted by a peaceful lotus eater, who offers them the flower.
  • Hello, we are not here to harm you. Can we interest you in the delicious lotus flower?
  • Where did you go?
  • Because the men ate the lotus flower, they are convinced that they never want to leave. Odysseus begins to worry about where his men are.
  • Why would we ever leave? The lotus flower is incredible!
  • What is wrong with you men? Where is your aspiration to return home?
  • Odysseus forces his men to go back with him onto the boat, and is confused about why they do not want to leave. His men are begging to stay on the island, and do not want to get on the boat.
  • Stop! This is our home now!
  • Men! It is not safe to eat the lotus flower, it makes you lose all hope to get home. Sail away quickly, so none of you are effected.
  • Odysseus commands his men to sail away, so that more of them are not impacted by the lotus flower. The men that ate the flower are tied down to the boat, as they sail away.
  • Effect: Odysseus' men are able to continue their journey, and do not have to stay on the island.
  • Cause: Odysseus is a good leader and drags his men off of the island, so they can return home.
