Edward the Black Prince on his death bed
Edward the Black Prince was able to win the war against France by bribing the French and getting favor for England. Later he faced many more battles against the French and won.
Edward the Black Prince helped campaign for Peter of Castile so that he could be king. Peter died before he could take the throne and Edward was in debt for the campaign money. Edward thought the solution was higher taxes so he made the people of Aquitaine pay higher taxes.
Edward died in 1376. Since Edward died before his father, he did not inherit the throne. The throne was passed down to his brother, Richard II.
