Storyboard Text

  • Douglass is a 17 year old slave, who was born into slavery. Douglass hadn’t known his father, but he was heard to be the slave master on the plantation he worked on. He had only seen his mother 4-5 times in his life. She would walk 12 hours in the night to be with him, and then walk 12 hours back, before sunrise. Sadly she died miserably of sickness. Douglass had always known something was right about his position. He was determined to find others with the same purpose, to abolish slavery.
  • As Douglass got older he had to work harder as each day passed. Mr Covey being his cruel self had sometimes made Douglass work twice as much as the other slaves did. It was as Douglass was a puppet and Covey the puppeteer, like Covey had enjoyed watching Douglass struggle under his control, while he couldn't do anything about it. Working on the plantation had effected Covey. Everyday Douglass and the other slaves would work on and on until day met night. Their breaks were short but they got breaks, and yet those weren’t a cup of sugar.
  • One night Covey had really given Douglass a hard time. He couldn’t handle getting treated the way he does, and could not stand how horrible Covey is and the plantation. Douglass ran away. He took  into the woods, with no clue where he was going or what he might stumble across. The night was dark and the stars and moon his only light source. Where will he go?
