  • Upon waking up at daybreak, Elie witnessed Juliek's dead body hunched over across from him, dead. The violin next to him Juliek's hope and last good-bye to his comrades.Even today, when I hear that particular piece by Beethoven, my eyes close and out f the darkness emerges the pale and melancholy face of my Polish comrade bidding farewell to an audience of dying men.-Eliezer Weisel
