I want to become a voyageur to help my father's salary because he cut off his thumb and wasn't able to do the job. Iam leaving behind my family my friends and my little baby sister.
I feel like I should not have left St.Annes. My hands are blistered and bleeding and my muscles are aching from paddling all day. I don't get along with most of the people on the brigade. They think that I am not ready to work for the Northwest Company
I was portaging and it cut into my back and my legs could barely lift the packs. The first carry was a trick and it weighed as much as 2 packs. The second time I carried it felt more balanced because the cecond time I made sure it wasn't a trick.
We got out of Lake Huron and it was really nice weather there. When we started on the water to Lake Superior we took a short cut and we got caught in a huge storm where waves were coming from every side and it was raining really hard so thet we could barely see.
We arrived at Grand Portage and I thought it would look nicer instead of a bunch of logs stuck into the ground. I still thought it was really cool seeing the Grand Portage and I am happy that we can eat other food then corn and salted pork and that we didn't have to paddle every day until the trip back home.
I am returning to Lachine with my brigade because I wanted to see my family and to sleep in my bed instead of the rock hard ground avery night. I am thinking that I will sign on to the Northwest Company next spring because it was nice to see all the water every day and to see al the Ojibwe Indians when I got to the Fort.
