In The Phantom Tollbooth by Susan Nanus, A bored boy named Milo gets a mysterious box with a tollbooth inside. He decides to open it and with it, his imagination.
Milo enters the Doldrums, where no one thinks at all, it is a boring and sad place. He meets a watch-dog who joins Milo on his journey.
Milo and Tock meet King Azaz, the king of Dictionopolis. Azaz tells them about how he and his brother sent their sisters away and deeply want them back. Azaz doesn't think that his brother will agree with him so he sends Milo and Tock find out.
Milo and Tock meet the Mathemagician, the king of Digitopolis. Milo and Tock talk with him about rescuing his sisters. The Mathemagician agrees with them but he tells them how dangerous the journey is and that he cannot go with them. And so they are off to save Princesses Rhyme and Reason.
Milo and Tock faced many obstacles like demons and The Bird. Somehow, they managed to escape.
Milo and Tock saved princesses Reason and Rhyme. They had a huge celebration for bringing them back. Milo says his goodbyes and drives off. He is back in his room again after a whole hour. I guess time flies when you are having fun.
