In 1961 Gideon broke into a pool in Florida and got arrested
Gideon could not afford a lawyer. At his trial, he asked the judge to give him one but the judge didn’t. The judge was following Florida law. It required the state to provide lawyers only in death penalty cases.
It is not fair that he wasn’t aloud a lawyer to help him even if he can’t afford one
