Good morning everyone! I hope you had a good weekend! I´ll see you all in class!
What are elements, compounds, and molecules?
Okay class! Today we are going to talk about elements, compounds, and molecules.
Is sodium an element?
Elements are substances made of one type of atom. It is the simplest form of matter. To locate elements, use the Periodic Table. Some examples are hydrgen, carbon, iodine, and oxygen. There are 118 elements in total.
Good question, Sofia! Sodium is an element! In fact, if you take sodium and chlorine and put it together, you´ll get sodium chloride! Which is the salt that we put on our food!
Compounds are formed when two or more elements combine. Sodium chloride is an example of a compound like I mentioned before.
Finally, there are molecules. Molecules are a group of atoms bonded together, representing the smallest unit of a chemical compound that can take part in a chemical reaction.
You too, Mr. Wysocki!
Well, that is the end of class! Have an awesome rest of the day everyone!
