Dasaratha, may I have two of your children to take to Mandipini forest?
My children to Mandipini forest! O God, what is happening?
The great king Dasaratha did a sacrifice, to please Agni, the fire god. Agni was happy and he gave the king pudding for his three wives. The pudding would give his wives each a son and one queen a twin.
Now, I will free you from your curse!
I am free! Rama has saved me!
After the four children were born, a sage named Vishwamitra asks Dasaratha if he can take his sons Rama and Lakshmana to the dangerous Mandapini forest. Dasaratha says no at first, then hesitantly agrees.
Wishwamitra, Rama, and Lakshmana come across the evil demoness Tataka. The demoness has been torturing the people in the forest. Tataka is invisible, so Rama uses her voice to shoot her, for the good of the forest.
Rama also comes across a cave where his own grandmother was cursed to stay in the cave forever. Rama frees her from the curse, and she is very grateful.
