  • Violating Neutral Rights
  • no more American Trade. We shall now have a war
  • We will see who will win.
  • Impressment
  • The Chesapeake
  • Great Britain and France were fighting a war that threatened to interfere with American Trade. By the United states trading with both countries and not taking sides. This started a conflict called Neutral Rights.
  • The Embargo Act
  • No more imports and exports from the foreign countries!!
  • British Naval Ships began stopping American Ships to search for suspected British deserters. British then forced deserters to return to the British Navy.  This is the practice of forcing people to serve in the navy is impressment.
  • Broken Treaties
  • Happened June of 1807. The British Warship Leapord stopped the American Vessel Chesapeake off the coast of Virginia. Leapords captain demanded to search American Ship for British Leaders but the Chesapeake Captain refused.
  • War Hawks
  • We are War Hawks who are the loudest voices
  • And I am their leader.
  • This took place in December,1807. This banned imports and exports from all foreign countries and Jefferson wanted to prevent Americans from using other countries as go- betweens for forbidden trade.
  • The settlers were moving onto lands that were guaranteed to Native Americans by treaty. Some Native Americans renewed their contacts with British agents and Tenskwawa urged Native Americans to return to their ancient customs.
  • Yay new land!
  • The loudest voices came from a group of young Republican congress members and they are called War Hawks. Their leader is Henry Klay. The federalists in the Northeast remained strongly opposed to the idea.
