General Domingo de Ugartechea find out about the the Texans. He goes with 100 soldiers to retrieve the cannon.
The Texans refuse to give up the cannon. The people of Gonzales called for reinforcements from the near by settlements.
The cannon was hidden in a peach orchard. They dug it up. Since they didn't have any cannons they used metal scraps to fill the cannon. They put it on the cart and raised a homemade flag that said, "Come and Take It."
The Mexican government didn't have enough guns so they couldn't fight back enough. For that reason, the Mexican army had to retreat. Mexican army retreated to the San Antonio de bexar.
This was the spark that led to the Texas revolution. IT is know as the Lexington of Texas. This is because Lexington was the first battle of the American revolution.
