The north was more industrial while the south had plantations. There were many factories to manufacture things and a lot of deforestation for the factories. Cotton was one of the south's main cash crops so they needed many plantations. Slavery was outlawed in the north, but still allowed in south. However, there was still a lot of discrimination. The winters were freezing the the north and rainy in the south. Summers were much hotter in the south. Railroads in the south transported people and goods.
