  • In 1971 Erich Honecker became the head of the communist party in East Germany. He was able to keep his rule for 18 years because of his secret police that killed/arrested his apposes.  
  • Hey Jakov, that German "Government" sure is bad huh. Shush Hans, they might hear you
  • In fall of 1989 German citizens had mass protests against Erich Honecker's communist regime. On November 9 the government surrendered to the people's demands and opened up the border with the West, tearing down the Berlin Wall

  • In March of 1990 East Germany had its first free election and Christian Democrats won about 50% of the votes. They wanted a political union with the West and their wish came true on October 3 with the reunification of the East and West. Germany thrived with the reunification and has the 4th largest economy to date
