In Jan. 1836, Jim Bowie arrived at the Alamo with 25 men, and decided that the Alamo should not be destroyed. William B. Travis was put in command of the Alamo in Feb. 1836.
The Alamo needed about 1,000 soldiers to properly defend it but would never have more than 200. On Feb. 23 Mexican forces arrive at San Antonio. Mexican forces quietly occupy San Antonio and surround the Alamo.
Travis wrote several messages to the people of Texas and to the US asking for assistance. He didn't receive much feedback because the Texas forces were organized poorly.
The fall of the Alamo occurred on the morning of March 6, 1836. 1800 Mexican troops fought against 189 Texans. All Texans were killed but 600 Mexicans also got killed.
The Alamo now stands as a place to visit when you come to Texas!!
