The United States president Dwight D. Eisenhower had an envoy to the Middle East. John Foster Dulles, said that Syria changing was unacceptable.
Surrounding countries were against Syria's actions. Although Turkey was the only one, which stood up. Turkey held Syria's boundraies even though there were bombing threats.
The United States had a plan fore being able to attack Russia. They would needed Syria to attack Turkey, so that there was probable cause for America to defend Turkey. Although this was a huge fail as Syria did no more than threats.
Russia and Syria started their relations in 1944 with an official agreement in 1946. This was to help Syria get their independence, but would also help their country out. This came back to them helping Russia. In 1980 Syria signed their friendship treaty with the Soviet Union.
