  • What caused a eclipse?Sometimes when the moon orbits Earth, it moves between the sun and Earth. When this happens, the moon blocks the light of the sun from reaching Earth. This causes an eclipse of the sun, or solar eclipse. During a solar eclipse, the moon casts a shadow onto Earth.
  • what happens a solar eclipse?A solar eclipse happens when the moon moves in front of the Sun as seen from a location on Earth. During a solar eclipse, it gets dimer and dimmer outside as more and more of the Sun is covered by the Moon. During a total eclipse, the entire Sun is covered for a few minutes and it becomes very dark outside.
  • what caused a lunar eclipseA lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind Earth and into its shadow. The only light reflected from the lunar surface has been refracted by Earth's atmosphere. This light appears reddish for the same reason that a sunset or sunrise does: the Rayleigh scattering of bluer light.
