The CIA informed J.F.K. of a plan to send well trained Cuban Exiles to invade the Bay of Pig and assured him that it would inspire the Cubans to rebel and join them in overthrowing the government.
Kennedy would let the plan go on, he wanted to prove that he was a strong cold war president.
A small army of trained Cuban Exiles invaded the Bay of Pigs on April 17, 1961.
The Plan failed horribly, the exiles were quickly all killed or captured by the Cuban troops. The expected uprise never happened.
Officials wanted Kennedy to support the exiles by sending war planes to back them up, but Kennedy did not want America to be any more involved with the failed plan.
Many Latin Americans were upset that Kennedy got America involved with other countries affairs, he accepted his blame and stated.
