Storyboard Text

  • Person Vs. Person
  • "Go along...This is a respectable tavern, not the township poor farm!" (pg. 20)
  • Person Vs. Nature
  •
  •
  • Person Vs. Self
  •
  • "She tried to tell herself that it didn't matter-- that Charlie would not be bothered, but she was too bothered by it herself." (pg. 97)
  • Lyddie has just arrived at the tavern, when a lady in a silk dress steps out of a coach and confronts her. The lady is a bit rude and aloof to Lyddie, and Lyddie responds by being defensive and even getting a bit angry. This is conflict because two characters are not getting along well at all.
  • This is an example of Person Vs, Nature conflict because the bear is a part of nature. Lyddie is facing down the bear to try to protect herself and her family, and the bear is acting aggressively towards her. "...she backed up to the ladder and, never taking her eyes off the bear, inched her way up to the loft." (pg. 2)
  • Lyddie is just about to finish a letter to Charlie, when she accidentally makes a big black blot of ink when she is just about done. She knows Charlie won't mind much, but she gets rid of the paper anyway and can't seem to get the motivation to start a new one. This shows that Lyddie is procrastinating with herself, and trying to avoid writing to Charlie even though she knows she should.
