Michael's mom was a crack addict so he was constantly searching for food or clothes. He was then placed in a series of foster homes until he ran away and a man called Big Tony let him live with him.
Big Tony's mothers dying wish was to see her grandson get a Christian education, so Big Tony brought Steven, along with Michael who was staying with them. Briarcrest sympathetically let Michael in hoping he would help in sports.
Please let them in. It was my mother's dying wish
Briarcrest High School
We will let Michael and Steven in as long as Michael improves his grades.
While helping to coach basketball, Sean Tuohy finds Michael in the stands and introduces himself. He is a self-made millionaire that was at one point in the same shoes as Michael. This leads to Micheal living with the Tuohy family.
Hey, I'm Sean Tuohy. I'm Collin's dad. I'd love it if you would let me help pay for some of your expenses and give you a place to stay.
O.K. I guess
Michael soon begins to be a part of the Tuohys and considers them to be family. He starts to open up to them about his personal life and in exchange the Tuohys help Michael with his grades and athletics.
With Love, The Tuohy Family
Michael is an outstanding offensive lineman and gains the attention of many college coaches and recruiters, especially after his team wins states. Michael is named an All American but still struggles with grades in school.
Hey Michael! I'm a college football recruiter and I want you to go to my college.
As a top football prospect Michael receives many offers from college, but chooses Ole Miss which leads to controversy because the Tuohys and Michael's tutor both went there. Micheal ended up being a star in college when the book ends and is supposed to go high in the NFL draft.
I have decided that I will be attending Ole Miss for football!
