One day, on the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit, a mysterious monkey was born, light emitted from his eyes into the heavens.
After years of training under the Patriarch Subodhi, Monkey learned the Way of 72 Changes, but still yearned for more...
On his cloud, Monkey soared to the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea in search of a weapon. He then came across a dusty, iron rod weighing over 1,000 pounds, and lifted it with ease, astonishing the Dragon King.
After being tricked into working as the Commissioner of the Stables and not being invited to the Banquet of the Immortal Peaches, Monkey was off to the Pavillion of the Jade Pool. There, he used his Way of 72 Changes to make everyone there think he was the Spirit Planet Venus, and tricked them into leaving. Once everyone was gone, Monkey ate hundreds of the peaches and also ate some of Laozi's Immortality pills.
Once at Temple of the Tunderclap, the Buddha made a wager with Monkey. If he could jump outside his palm in a single somersault, the Celestial Throne was his, but if he didn't Monkey would have to return to Earth and cause no trouble. Of course Monkey took up this offer with no second thought and jumped from the Buddha's palm. He landed on the third of five pillars and wrote his name on it.
It turns out the "pillar" that Monkey marked was the Buddha's finger, and Monkey got sent back to Earth inside of a rock, for a long time.
