Storyboard Text

  • “Are you okay.” Asked the other slave. “Yes.” Frederick answered. “What’s your name?” asked the other slave. “Frederick Douglass.” Answered Frederick. “What about you.” “Sandy.” answered the other slave. “What are you doing out here.” Asked Sandy. Frederick was wondering the same thing. Frederick then told Sandy all about his situation. “I know something that’ll help.” Sandy said, while pulling something out of his pocket. “What’s this.” Frederick asked. “It will protect you from Covey”. Said Sandy giving Frederick a root. “Now you must sleep.” Sandy said. Frederick rested his head on the ground by campfire.
  • The next morning Frederick went back to Covey’s, he went back to doing his work he saw Covey, his face was red hot from anger. He ran as fast as he could towards Covey and tackled him. But instead of letting Covey beat on Frederick, Frederick sprang up and gave him a kick to the chest Covey wasn’t expecting this, Frederick then tackled him to the ground, “help me you fools.” Screamed Covey at the other slaves but the other slaves just stood there watching Covey get beat. The fight between them lasted for almost 2 hours. Covey then backed off of Frederick, “I’ll get you next time.” Said Covey out of breath.
  • Now that Frederick won the fight against Covey, Covey made sure he didn’t mess with Frederick ever again. From the next six months Covey had Frederick, Covey didn’t lay a finger on him, didn’t whip him once, and didn’t surprise Frederick from the bushes. Frederick was safe because he stood up for himself.
