Ready to execute their plan, Katherine and Bevis go to leave the museum. They are stopped by the Lord Mayor's engineers though. In response, the historians put their knowledge to use and fight the engineers, winning in the end. Chapter 35 - The Cathedral
Valentine overhears of the gunfight in the museum, he worries about Katherine but the Lord Mayor prohibits him from going to see her. Meanwhile, Tom flies the Jenny Haniver close enough to London for Hester to jump on. The Lord Mayor hears about this and orders his 'Stalkers' to go capture her.
Chapter 36 - The Shadow of Bones Chapter 37 - The Bird Roads
Tom takes The Jenny Haniver up to circle around London so that he can wait for Hester. Valentine's henchmen take Valentine's airship up to take Tom in response. The Jenny Haniver is struck with a missle and Tom panics. He is able to see through Valentine's airship and spot a weakness, allowing his to blow the ship to bits. The debris scatters all over London, one chunk falling directly on top of Bevis, leaving him dead.
Finally arriving at The Cathedral, Katherine watches as Valentine moves to stab Hester, who is trapped in the arms of a stalker. Katherine jumps in front of Hester just in time to get stabbed in the stomach. Katherine stumbles into one of MEDUSA's control panels, pressing some wrong sequence of buttons causing it to go into self destruct mode. Just in time though, Tom lands The Jenny Haniver right outside.
Valentine attempts to get Katherine onto The Jenny Haniver but she passes away before he can. Completely distraught, Valentine tells Tom and Hester to leave while they can, so they do. As they're flying away, London explodes in a large ball of fire. Hester tries to comfort Tom but there's not much they can do.. So instead, they just fly on, holding onto to one another in the breezy morning wind.
We're alive... and together... and we're going to be all right.
