1, Krakow Poland- This scene takes place in chapter 8. Yank finds a couple that is walking in the deportation and sadly discovers that they are his parents.

When Yanek is walking home, he is interrupted by a deportation. He finds a couple in the crowd, and sadly discovers that they are his parents.
When Yanek thinks he is all alone at the concentration camp, he spots somebody very familiar, who happens to be his uncle Moshe. However, he informs the boy that the rest of his family is dead, and they are the only people left.
At the Trzebinia Concentration Camp, the prisoners must move rocks back and forth, simply for the enjoyment of the Nazi's. If they gave up, or where seen carrying a rock that seemed too small for them, they were beaten.
