Storyboard Text

  • Causes of Ocean Acidification
  • Role of CO2 on Ocean Acidification
  • Effects of Ocean Acidification
  •  Ocean Acidification is caused by CO2 being absorbed by the oceans at an incredible rate.  Things like factories and cars burning fuel are two ways the CO2 is getting into the oceans.
  • Effects of Ocean Acidification
  • That is 22 million tons of CO2 per day. The oceans are 30% more acidic because of human and industrial development. This has a major impact on the oceans.
  • More effects of Ocean Acidification
  • Coral reefs are starting to collapse, oyster beds are disappearing, and sea creatures are getting weaker.  The reefs and beds protect the coastline and give animals a place to live.
  • Polar effects of Ocean Acidification
  • Ocean acidification impact shell animals and their ability to build hard shells. Also with fewer smaller marine animals and coral, they don't have enough to eat.
  • If sea fish populations die then the sea animals that eat them will also die which has effects on the food chain.
  • The north and south polar regions are also showing effects of acidification because most of the marine plankton and fish are become weaker and dying.
