Storyboard Text

  • "All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor! / All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!" (1.3.50-51).
  • "Our eldest, Malcom, whom we name hereafter / The Prince of Cumberland" (1.4.39-40). 
  •  "Come, you spirits / ...Unsex me here, / And fill me from the crown to the toe-top full / Of direst cruelty" (1.5.30-33).
  • In this scene Macbeth and Banquo meet the witches who tell them Macbeth will be king and Banquo's children will be kings. 
  • "Thou wouldst be great, / Art not without ambition, but without / The illness should attend it" (1.5.5-7).
  • Duncan announces that Malcom will be king.  After receiving this news Macbeth is angered andmotivated to obtain the throne. 
  • "To alter favor ever is to fear. / Leave all the rest to me." (1.5.6465).
  •  Lady Macbeth receives Macbeth's letterstating the witches' prophecy.  Her response is to call upon spirits to rid her of gendered features and fill her withcruelty.
  • "Fair is foul, and foul is fair" (1.1.12).
  •  Macbeth withdraws from the plan to kill Duncan, so Lady Macbeth insults herhusband by stating he does not have thestrength to complete the task.
  • Lady Macbeth loses trust in herhusband to follow through withthe plan, so she takes up the task on her own.
  • This quote from the witches introduces the "foul and fair" motif of people and things not being whatthey appear to be.
