Persia and Greek clashed when Persia started expanding into their barriers. So, the Greek sent ships to help rebel against the Persian control in the city-state Anatolia since it was part of Ancient Greece

The Persians led by Darius went to Marathon to get revenge and waited three days, but when they got stood up, they tried to leave but got ambushed. This is a famous battle because a messenger had to run all the way to Greece to warn them, over 25 miles, which is where we get the 26 mile Marathon

At this point, Sparta started helping and King Leonidas brought there finest soldiers to fight in the battle of Themosticles, Where Persia led by Xerxes, yet one of the Spartans betrayed them and showed the enemy a way to the back, and so they sent away all their soldiers except for 300 Where Persia then slaughtered them.
I am your leader, King Leonidas, and you are my best 300, so lets hit em hard
Meanwhile, that battle had given Themosticles time to make a plan to intercept the ships for Persian warriors by forcing them into a narrow passage and then sunk them with their smaller, more maneuverable ships.

Athens and Sparta combined forces and made their biggest army which was stronger with better armor and weapons and made an even battle with Persia, roughly 200K on each side. The battle lasted until 499 B.C. when Greece won.

After the battle, the Persians were mad for the taxes, and they didn't have enough of an army to defend themselves, so, an army led by Alexander the great came and took over in the confusion
