  • I am King John, I have the ultimate power to increase your taxes and demand more military protection
  • This is unfair and unjust. How do we regain freedom and rights?
  • We need a government that will let the people have more power and rights. We need need fair laws that include rights to trial and property and the King must have limits as well.
  • I don't want to sign and limit my power! I want complete control, I have born privilege.
  • On this day, June 15, 1215 we demand your signature. We have natural born rights and freedoms and we demand them
  • King John was a horrible king that abused his power. He raised taxes and became increasingly oppressive.
  • william and mary we offer both of you throne of joint monarchs

  • Remember, you cannot suspend laws passed by parliament, or tax without parliament's consent Also, if we don't like something, we will question you!
  • King John's actions angered his subjects and they began to rebel in order to regain their natural rights.
  • What is the point of being in power?
  • So, what is the point of being a king?
  • On June 15, 1215, King John was forced to sign the Magna Carta which provided more rights to his people and limited his rights. The Magna Carta would later serve as an example for liberty and fair government.
  • The sovereign is not allowed to interfere with elections or freedom of speech. You cannot spend money without parliament's consent as well
  • In 1689, James II abdicated the throne and left England. William and Mary were offered the crown as joint monarchs
  • Parliament took this opportunity of having new sovereigns to create more power for government and less power for the sovereign
  • Parliament created the English Bill of Rights that would be an example of a "people" led government. For the the first time Parliament had more control than the throne.
