  • Napoleon experiences another defeat against Great Britain in Waterloo.  As a result, Napoleon quickly loses power as emperor and is dethroned.  He died a few years later.  
  • The Congress of Vienna was formed by European conservatives wishing to restore the monarchies in Europe.  The Congress of Vienna focused on creating and maintaining a balance of power within Europe, as well as strengthening countries around France to ensure no future revolts.
  • Because European leaders had become anxious about the legacy of the French Revolution, Prussia, Russia, and Austria formed a Holy Alliance in which they pledged to strengthen countries surrounding France in order to combat the forces of revolution.
