The longhorns were well suited for life in Texas and could feed on native grasses. They could survive in both hot and cold weather and were resistant to a disease most commonly known as "The Texas Fever".
In the oil fields everything was about getting oil and making money. Soon all the oil outpaced the National Demand and the price of oil dropped, and the rush of people drilling oil depleted the field.
Railroads were better than other types of transportation because some boats had to go through shallow and dangerous waters and often could not get goods to their transportation. Trains can get goods to their destination easier than other transportations.
