Prince Henry the Navigator
This storyboard does not have a description.
I'm Infante D. Henrique better known as Prince Henry the Navigator
I basically started the age of exploration. No need to thank me
My age of exploration lasted for a good 200 odd years and spread far beyond my home country Portugal, making me a world wild influence
I may not have sailed myself, but I heavily sponsored exploration down Africa's west coast during the 15th centruy
I was fascinated by the lands of Africa and wanted to create new trade routes for spices and other riches
At this point the furthest anyone had sailed was to Cape Bojador but in 1434 captain Gil Eanes on one of my sponsored ships passed this point
I then went on to sponsor another 40 ships between 1444 and 1446 to sail down the west coast of Africa
In 1418 I established the first ever school of navigation. I encouraged scientists, map makers and navigators to attend
