Langston Hughes was born on Feb. 1 1902 in Joplin, Missouri. He lived with his grandma. His dad lived in Mexico so that he could be a lawyer while his mom tried to be on stage acting. He lived in Lawrence,Kansas with his grandma.

He went to Central High school. After that he attended Columbia University and left. He worked various jobs and went to Lincoln University in Oxford, PA and got a BA degree.
He lived as a writer. He wrote dozens of poetry and stories. For example, Not Without Laughter a novel published in 1930 and Dream differed was published in 1551.
His home , East 127th Street was turned into a New York City Landmark Status in 1981 And was placed in the National Register of Places. His poem was translated throughout the World.
Langston died of cancer in New York City On May 22,1967. His funeral was filled with jazz and blues but contained little in the way of spoken eulogy. His ashes were interred beneath the Arthur Schomburg.
