Sinking of The Lusitania and The Zimmerman Telegram
The Central Powers and The Allied Powers
In Europe, A Serbian group, who was allied with Russia, attempts to assassinate Archduke Ferdinand. After attempting to bomb and shoot Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, they eventually were successful. Because the Serbian group was allied with the allied powers and Austria Hungary was allied with the central powers, the tensions between them grew and caused WW1.
One reason America got involved in WW1 is because a German U-boat shot down the Lusitania, a neutral American passenger boat. After this, Germany promised not to shoot any American boats, but did again making America want to join the war even more. Another reason America joined the war was because of the Zimmerman Telegram. The Zimmerman Telegram asked Mexico to ally with Germany to fight America in order to get back land such Texas and New Mexico.
The Alliance system is one of the main causes of WW1. If there were no alliance systems, so many countries would not have gotten involved. France, Britain, America, Romania, Italy, Egypt, Serbia, Tunisia, Libya, Greece, Algeria, Morocco, and Russia were countries of the allied powers. Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire were part of the central Powers.
Treaty of Versailles
Treaty of Versailles
Point 1-5 no secret agreements Point 6-13 fix territory issues Point 14 create League of Nations
Some new technology used in WW1 include tanks, planes, machine guns, and poison gasses. Poison gasses were very deadly; They wold hurt anyone without a mask by getting into their lungs or by affecting their skin. Trench Warfare was like hell. Soldiers would fight in the same trenches for weeks and get terrible diseases and injuries due to how crowded and unsanitary it was.
The armistice happened because Germany realized they were losing, so they tried to talk about peace with America, since America would not punish them as much as other European countries. On November 11, 1918, the armistice was signed. It forced Germany to call back its western front troops, cancel the treaty of BrestLitovsk, and hand over their fleet of U-boats, and make Kaiser, the leader of Germany, step down.

Wilson's 14 Points prevented future wars with peace. The first five points stopped secret agreements. the sixth through thirteenth points dealt with specific territorial issues. The fourteenth point created the League of Nations which was a meeting of international organizations for peace. After the war, Germany was punished with the Treaty of Versailles. It made Germany lose its border territory and colonies, pay huge fines to the Alliances for war damage, stopped their treaty with Russia, and limited their Military's size and nature.
