  • Britain had little money from the war with France, so they look to the colonist for money. The war happened in 1754 - 1763.

  • Britain started passing laws that taxed that colonist unfairly.

  • Colonist formed groups such as The Sons and Daughters of Liberty to start protesting. They protested because they believed the laws were illegal.
  • Declaration of Independence
  • From all tension with Britain and the people, acts of violence started throughout the people.
  • From the violence and protest the Battles of Lexington and Concord happened on April 19, 1775.
  • The Declaration of Independence was written in 1776 by Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, and Robert R. Livingston in Philadelphia.
