The colonial army have crossed the Delaware River and are ready to fight the Hessians. They took the Hessians by surprise, fought them, and took them prisoner. But soon after when General Cornwallis heard about the attack he wanted to recapture Trenton and Washington.

  • I wish I could leave the army and go back to my family.
  • Being a slave is even better than being in the army.
  • I think   we should make a surprise attack. We'll cross the river, sneak up on the Hessians, and capture them.
  • In 1776, George Washington and the Continental Army were staying in Pennsylvania for the winter. George Washington wasn't proud of his army because they were sick thin and unfit to fight.
  • I don't have any shoes. My feet are numb and I can see ice forming on them. Waaah!
  • My feet are so warm and snuggly inside here. I can walk 2 miles with these boots.
  • Then, George Washington decided to make a surprise attack on the Hessians in Trenton and capture them. But to do it, they had to cross the freezing Delaware River. It was a risk but it was worth it.
  • What!? George Washington defeated our own troops of Hessians? How can that be possible? I will take revenge for this and will capture him.
  • George Washington and a portion of his army crossed the Delaware River on December 25th, Christ,as night. The soldiers were brave and confident that they would win because the Hessians had just arrived from Germany.
  • George Washington is nothing to me. I will make King George proud and defeat him and his army...(I hope)
  • The Continental Army landed on shore on December 26th early morning. They trudged through the white snow. Some of them didn't even have shoes. Their feet felt like ice blocks.
  • The Continental Army surprised the Hessians on December 26th. Most of them were took prisoner which was bad for the British because now they had less soldiers.
  • After hearing about the Battle of Trenton, General Charles Cornwallis was furious. He wanted to recapture Trenton and he also wanted to defeat George Washington and capture him.
