Hockey didn't just spread geographically, it also spread throughout social classes. Women and people of color had to make their own leagues because they couldn't join the men's leagues.
During WWI, when Canada's men had to go to war, the popularity of women's hockey skyrocketed.
1920 saw hockey added to the Olympics, with countries like Belgium, England, France, Switzerland, and Canada playing in it
Canada won hockey, as you would expect
Germany added their own hockey team to the Olympics a year later
Hockey in the Olympics is now played by people throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Africa and South America haven't really caught onto the game, mostly because of weather restrictions.
