Storyboard Text

  • The ongoing Syrian Civil War has inflicted over 400,000 deaths, displacing and forcing migration (movement) for 12 million people...
  • Over 6 million people have been displaced and left the country's border, known as refugees, while another 6 million are internally displaced, or people who are displaced but still remains in the country...
  • Listen to me. Please, we are very poor. If we don't cross the border soon, we will either die in the crossfire or starve to death. There is no future here anymore. At least I want to die trying. Let's sell our house here in Damascus and try go to Lebanon.
  • Living in Syria during the war is dangerous and undesirable, the reasons to leave are called push factors. We will hear some of them in the story from Nabil and Iman.
  • The war affects everyone. Even Civilians are targets. Aside from bombings and shootings, cities are placed under siege, and resources are scarce. We are lucky that we're still alive. We must leave!
  • But Nabil we can't leave everything we've ever had or known behind! Maybe things will improve. We should wait.
  • متجر
  • We have a bit of savings, and we are still alive, are we not?
  • Iman, the streets are battlefields. You and I have no job. We have no means of income.
  • Let's talk more at home. Outside isn't safe.
  • We lack basic services. The water is unsanitary, international aid is often cut off, our daughter can't go school. This is no way to live.
  • To stay or to leave- the push factors of migration
  • Fine. You've got a point. Let's get to Lebanon and see what happens first. You remember our neighbor downstairs 2 years ago? I think his family of 7 went to Lebanon then Turkey and then Greece. He left us a contact that can help us.
  • The danger of war, poverty & unemployment and the lack of services pushed this Syrian family to seek asylum in a foreign country.
  • Now the family, among many others, will attempt a bold escape to Lebanon with the help of a smuggler. Will they make it?
