When P.T. Barnum was a kid, his father worked as a tailor. One day, while with his father, Barnum met Charity. He knew that one day he was going to be with her. Eventually, Charity got old enough to where she could move out to live with Barnum. With little to go on, they knew that the journey would be difficult. This didn't matter though, because they had each other and a vision of success.
Never Enough
When Barnum got fired from his previous job, he bought a wax museum. Unfortunately, this exhibit was not prosperous. Instead of having wax figures, he decided to bring in real exhibits. These so called "freaks" instantaneously brought in a crowd. After living their life in the shadow of shame, the "freaks" finally had the spotlight on them. They were finally being accepted for who they were. Mostly.
From Now On
As Carlyle(Barnum's partner) and Anne(circus "freak")got to the show, they met Carlyle's parents at the stairway. "Are you not ashamed?" they asked. Obviously, this upset her and and she left. After chasing her down, Carlyle explained that no matter who she was or what people thought, they were meant to be together.
The Greatest Show
This is the greatest show!
When Barnum and his crew went to Europe, they met the Swedish singer, Jenny Lind. Barnum promised that if she would come back to the United States with him, he would make he even more famous. Eventually Barnum's and Jenny's tour came to an end and Jenny had caught feelings. She showed this during her last performance when she kissed Barnum on the stage. The camera man caught the scene on camera and their kiss was displayed on the front page of the paper.
When Barnum got home, he was welcomed back with the burning of his circus. If that wasn't bad enough, the kiss that the paper displayed had made its way to his wife. With this, his wife left along with their daughters. After getting cheered up at the bar by his circus crew, Barnum decided to chase after his wife. He met her at the beach by her parent's house and vowed that they would do everything together from then on.
After the circus burned down, they were limited to only a tent. This though, didn't hold them back in the slightest bit. In the ending scenes, you can see that everyone is back together and the circus is thriving. When the time came, Barnum passed the baton on to Carlyle. After this, Barnum left the circus because he wanted to see his daughters grow up.
