  • The Temperance Movement was and late nineteenth-early twentieth century organized to outlaw or limit the intake and production of alcoholic beverages. Many of the activists in the movement were politically active because women gained suffrage and since most activists were abused women and their families there were more people voting on bills to stop alcoholism. IN 1851 main governor and father of prohibition  John Hubbard, passed the "Maine Laws" the Maine Laws outlawed the consumption of alcoholic beverages in Main from 1851 to 1858 when they were repealed and the laws were changed so that small amounts of alcohol can be sold and congested. Today you can still find traces of the Temperance Movement in some states in America
