  • Don't tell my husband!
  • Here, have this girdle to stop from getting your neck cut off.
  • One year later...
  • Rising Action
  • Ok? But how am I gonna pay this back?
  • Let's just get it over with.
  • A mysterious green knight enters a castle and asks if he can play a game in which someone takes a swing at his neck with an ax. If the Green Knight lives then he gets to swing the same ax at their neck in a year.
  • Climax
  • Sir Gawain cuts off the knight's head, and the knight lives. The knight rides away with his head in his hand This means that Sir Gawain has to find the knight's home and then have an ax hit his neck.
  • Falling Action
  • Stop flinching or you're a coward.
  • Sir Gawain stays at a house where a husband is gone while a woman is at home. The woman gives Sir Gawain many kisses and other things which he has to give to the woman's husband to repay everything that he got while he was there. The woman also gives him a green girdle that will protect him from harm from the ax, which he keeps doesn't repay for.
  • Resolution
  • I planned all of this out but you can have the ax anyways.
  • The knight is overly excited that Sir Gawain made it to the castle. Sir Gawain just wants to get his beheading over with.
  • Sir Gawain flinched the first time that the Green Knight swung the ax, but the second time he doesn't flinch at all. The second hit doesn't cut off Sir Gawain's head, but it just leaves a mark.
  • OK, OK.
  • The Green Knight tells Sir Gawain that he planned for his wife to give him the girdle and that his plan was to test Sir Gawain and if he stood true to being a knight. Sir Gawain wasn't happy with himself after the fact.
