Why were longhorn cattle important to the Texas cattle industry? During the mid 1800 the longhorns showed up in Texas. The new breed of cattle made babies with the English mixed with Spanish cattle. However longhorns help keep the mountain lions, wolf, and other predators away by using their horns. People started to kill longhorn to put on walls, make buttons, decorations, household utensils from the horns. They even hollowed out the horns to store gunpowder.

Most people were concerned with the drilling oil than city planning, a lot of Texas boomtowns were crowded, dirty, and rough places. Oil-field workers normally lived in tents or wooden shacks. Some people offered gambling and drinking, these activities led to violence making some boomtowns dangerous.
