In 1920, an alcohol ban was established in the United States. It was then forbidden to produce, sell and transport alcohol! One could say that almost every American were affected by the alcohol ban.
Bartenders emigrated, people started brewing alcohol at home and crime grew considerably. The ban actually counteracted its purpose.
From 1825 to the 1920s, there was a large emigration from Norway to the United States. The IOGT (International Order of Good Templars) was established in Norway in 1870. Members of the IOGT were required to make a pledge of total abstinence.
These were some of the reasons why alcohol sales were prohibited both in Norway and the USA.
But on the other hand...
It's for a good cause
